A Willy Wonka Prequel Is In The Works, With Either Tom Holland Or Timothée Chamalet Eyed To Lead

Gobstop what you’re doing, we’re set to re-enter a world of pure imagination thanks to Warner Bros. who have confirmed an official release date for Wonka; a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel.
The film will reportedly tell us the origin story of the lead candy crafter, Willy Wonka, who I think it is safe to say, must have had a pretty cooked and colourful early life.

Wonka, directed by Paddington‘s Paul King and produced by Harry Potter‘s David Heyman, will be released on March 17, 2023. Warner Bros. is yet to confirm exactly who will be playing Mr Wonka himself, but they have confirmed that they will not begin shooting whilst the UK studio remains in lockdown.
Collider have put forth two potential leads for the film in Spider-Man‘s Tom Holland and Call Me By Your Name‘s Timothée Chalamet, but nothing is yet confirmed.
Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has twice been famously made into films, with Gene Wilder playing the candy connoisseur in the 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, and Johnny Depp in Tim Burton‘s 2005 film that shares the book’s name.
Wonka will be out via Warner Bros. on March 17, 2023.
