Rammstein Stand Against Homophobic Russian Laws, Kiss Onstage In Russia

Written by on 2 Αυγούστου 2019

Rammstein are currently touring their self-titled album around the world and have chosen to take a stand against Russia and Putin’s anti-LGBTIQ+ law.
The law, which was passed in 2013 by Vladimir Putin, is Russia’s ‘gay propaganda’ law. It bans materials that “[present] distorted ideas about the equal social value of traditional and non-traditional sexual relationships”. The law basically means it’s illegal to express any form of homosexuality or non-conformity of gender in Russia. This law has been condemned by several human rights groups including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
So, when Rammstein took to the stage in Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia covered in metallic body paint, guitarists Paul Landers and Richard Kruspe decided to protest onstage. The pair shared a kiss while performing their 2019 track ‘Ausländer’.

They’ve doubled down on the protest too. Sharing a photo of the kiss on Instagram, they wrote, “Россия, мы любим тебя!”, which translates to, “Russia, we love you!”.
