Written by A on 23 Ιανουαρίου 2021
Aaaaaand that’s a wrap! Glass Animals have taken out the Hottest 100 of 2020 with Heat Waves!
It was a bloody close one this year, with only 350 votes separating Glass Animals and #2, Booster Seat by Spacey Jane.

I’m sure the pineapples are absolutely flying around right now. It’s absolutely no secret that UK outfit Glass Animals are a triple j listener fave. Back in 2019, they made it into the countdown at #34 with Tokyo Drifting with Denzel Curry, an earlier single from the group’s massive third record Dreamland.
This year, they cracked the 100 with Tangerine at #18 and went on to prove Warm Tunas correct, taking out the whole damn thing with Heat Waves.
In at #2, Perth’s Spacey Jane leapt into 2020 with the release of their debut record Sunlight, which triple j listeners voted as their favourite album of 2020. Booster Seat features on that record.
What a bloody huge countdown it’s been! There were highs, lows and tons of surprises – all the makings of a successful Hottest 100.

Flume‘s The Difference with Toro Y Moi, Ball Park Music‘s Cherub and Tame Impala‘s Lost In Yesterday came in at #3, #4 and #5 respectively, rounding out the top five.
Arguably one of the year’s biggest songs, WAP from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion took out number 6, followed by G Flip, The Jungle Giants, Hilltop Hoods and Billie Eilish to round out the top 10.
Ball Park Music was predicted to hit the #2 slot, with Flume and Tory Y Moi predicted to hit #5, so a couple of changes to the Warm Tunas prediction came through, but in all – they were predictably close.
After taking out the 2019 Hottest 100, Billie Eilish returned to the countdown in 2020, entering at #90 with her James Bond track No Time To Die, then again at #79 with my future and finally, cracking the top ten with Therefore I am at #10.
Lime Cordiale absolutely slayed the countdown, with a whopping five tracks from the band’s 2020 record 14 Steps To A Better You (Relapse) cracking the top 26: No Plans To Make Plans came in at #26, Reality Check Please at #25, Addicted To The Sunshine at #20, Screw Loose at #16 and at #11, On Our Own.
Tame Impala clocked in at #33 with Breathe Deeper and backed it up with Is It True at #17 and their top 5 appearance with Lost In Yesterday.
G Flip, Mac Miller, The Jungle Giants, Skegss, San Cisco and DMA’s were among the acts who charted multiple times.
It’s not a Hottest 100 if there’s not a bit of comedy – Mashd N Kutcher‘s Get On The Beers, featuring an infamous speech by Victorian Labour premier Dan Andrews, clocked into the count at #12.
Two Like A Version’s made the count this year: G Flip‘s take on Lady Marmalade and Bugs‘ take on Mallrat‘s Charlie.
This year’s countdown saw 66 tracks from Aussie acts, with 28 artists making their Hottest 100 debut, including Stace Cadet and KLP with Energy coming in at #21 and Eves Karydas with Complicated at #22.
